Circulation SubCommittee
Subcommittee Charge
September 21, 1995

The SUS Circulation Services Subcommittee will serve as an instrument of the SUS Public Services Planning Committee for the purposes of providing input regarding all aspects of circulation services.

Composition

The Subcommittee is to consist of principal Circulation/Access representatives (preferably Department Heads) from each SUS institution. Those that have branches in geographically remote areas (such as other cities) may have multiple representation. The FCLA Circulation Liaison is also included on the Subcommittee as a Technical Advisor/Non-Voting Member.

The FSU Circulation Department Head will chair the subcommittee's organizational meeting, at which decisions will be made regarding guidelines for chair election/length of service, system and time frame for reports to the SUS Public Services Planning Committee, and meeting locations/frequency/methodology.

Mission

The Subcommittee will be responsible for obtaining and sharing comprehensive knowledge of circulation services, including automated circulation functions, through the following means:

  • serving as a round table for open discussion and sharing of information and experiences regarding various aspects of the automated circulation system, policies, processes, and other associated circulation functions.

  • providing an opportunity for informal contact with the FCLA Circulation Liaison for purposes of discussion and dissemination of information regarding technology affecting the automated circulation functions.

  • serving as an early alert system for discovering and recommending solutions for unforeseeable and/or developing problems.

  • The Subcommittee would present recommendations to the SUS Public Services Planning Committee in the form of objectives and proposals. Preparation of these recommendations would include proposing various formats for computer-generated reports and assessment of revisions to these reports, proposal and testing of enhancements, surveys regarding particular policies, and assessment of trends and technology affecting circulation services. Subcommittee responsibilities go beyond articulating SUS-wide needs to include the requirement to participate as appropriate in all areas of development.

The Subcommittee would also provide status reports on the implementation schedules of new and/or revised circulation services.
