By changing the label of the 246 field to *Alternative title*,
as proposed by Linda Smith, and incorporating the display constants,
there is a gain of 5 labels.
I also propose labeling the 780 and 785 fields as *Publishing history*
and retaining their display constants. This results in a gain of
8 labels. It would be
nice if the 780 and 785 fields would then display under the original
362 *Publishing history* field. By eliminating 13 labels, it allow
us to pick up other
labels from fields that may not be frequently used with serials,
but may be useful from time to time, such as using the 524 field
with its label of *Cite as*
instead of a 500 note. In all, I have pared down the labels to a
total of 40.
