Margaret Kaus & Robena Cornwell
I believe we will only need to add a few labels to the music format.
The 246 field is the biggest change. Please refer back to the message
from Linda Smith for the books format. She covered the 246s and the new
labels required for the 246s very well. I do not believe we will have
to add to it for the music format. Please let me know if you feel differently.
We will need to add a new label for the 546 language field. I suggest
the label: LANGUAGE
Robena and I are also discussing changing the 511 label with indicators
of Blank and 0 to Participant: (the current label is Particpant/performer)
I would like to add a label for the 505 field, with a 2nd indicator
of 2. The label could read: Partial contents: I thought about using a
print constant here, but that would look odd, and we do have room to add
labels in the music format.
I would also like to change the order of the long view for the OPAC.
It has always bothered that the 505 field (the Contents note) and the
520 field (the Summary note) are displayed so early in the long view.
When everyone was having cards printed up for their card catalogs, the
order was the AACR2 order. I would like to follow this order as closely
as possible. This is a rough draft of what I am proposing for the 5xx
fields: (The 2nd column is the indicators).
546 Language:
511 B0 Participant:
511 1 Cast:
511 2 Presenter:
511 3 Narrator:
518 Notes:
500
501
502
503
504
506
580
586
590
521 Intended audience:
505 01 Contents:
505 2 Partial contents:
The above fields without a label are falling under the label Notes:
The label Notes: is only printed once.
The 511 field with indicators of 2 and 3 are now obsolete, but keep
in mind that we have a lot of bib records already in our files that have
those indicators, so we'll need to keep the labels.
At UNF we currently use 31 labels. The above changes would add 2 labels
and change 1 label, with a possible reordering of the 5xx fields.
